Gene Krupa radio king snare Last viewed: 19 hours ago

I've got a 1958 #005 gene Krupa radio king red sparkle snare. It's got 8 sound king lugs and the snares are riveted to a metal snare strap which connects to the strainer by one screw. How do I change the snares? Puredound makes vintage snares for the clam shell dont see anything for this type of set up. The bar on the strainer is bent and screw is also bent. Anyone know what kind of throw this is?

Sweet thanks...is the drum a Gene Krupa student model or a straight radio king?

Strait Gene Krupa Radio King. The Super Krupa had a clamshell and the Student Radio King had a different throw.

I had the same problem on my 40s RK that I've had since may, these are special extended wires and still can't find any, have just put normal wires on it, Canopus vintage are my favourites. Hopefully someone else can explain how to take them off though, but you want to still keep these somewhere though.

Not sure but you might be able to get puresound special extended ones if you want that but there's no 16 strand only 12s, I wish I could get the 16 ones.

PRS1416 is the discontinued part # for the RK with the metal straps.

The PRE1416 is still available. It's the same extended, 16 strand as the PRS but with no straps. The PRE's are slotted & punched on each end for strings or straps. These are also way more user friendly to tune than the original style metal strap strainer, IMO.

Here's a link to LA Music that has em:

Thanks to makurtz for that, to bad I just ordered some more canopuses chrome plated this time, although I already love the dry ones-2 lots one for my supra as well. When I can afford these I will be getting them(PRE). Hope they will have them a while though.
