Get your Heart checked!! Last viewed: 12 minutes ago

Well, it happened. I had yet another minor heart attack. It happened over the weekend, and the morphine hangover is a b itch! After 4 days of all the morphine you can stand, it sux having to come home with none.

The moral of this story is, many of us, myself included, live terribly unhealthy lifestyles, even though we think we are working out regularly, eating the right foods, getting enough sleep....It sux getting your chest ripped open. I've enjoyed that pleasure, and narrowly missed it this time. If you haven't had a good, thorough butt-reaming and heart lookin', it's time. You guys 50 and over especially. Don't be afraid of what they MAY find, pray they do find it in time.

I told the doctor during our interview, "I'd rather be wrong than dead"....what could he say to that? Great logic in my mind. He was reluctant until I made that statement. He knew, with my wife in the room, exactly what that meant. She would own a hospital if I walked out of there and dropped dead in two weeks.

The procedures, if you can get your doc to order them, are an angiogram, or better a "CT-Angio". It looks at your blood vessels with a dye. Not painful, just stressful the first time you have it done. I've had 19. The next is, yep, you guessed it, a prostate exam. Found out something there too. Then the butt-scope. Gotta find those polyps.

Do it for yourself, not your wife/significant other, mom, sister, brother, children....you need to have these simple procedures done. It could save your life. You can't drum much when your dead, and we'll all be that soon enough.

This has been a public service announcement for Don't be Stupid, get it Checked.

"Ignorance may be overcome through education. Stupidity, however, is a lifelong endeavor." So, educate me, I don't likes bein' ignant...

Hi Jonni! I think I speak for the majority of forum members by wishing you a speedy recovery and hope you're doing well. I'm 57 and have had one "reaming". All OK from that end! LoLoLoLo Had a series of doctor visits from January to June, while I was employed and had insurance, and I'm certified fairly healthy! Keep up your spirits, my friend.

Glad to hear you're okay Johnny. Scary stuff.

I have to get a very thorough medical annually for my work and I get a complete physical from my personal doctor every year as well. I'm guilty of not exercising enough. I'm still tired from that Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii and Western States 100 miler in the 80's lol.

Cheers and take care man.

I wish you a safe, speedy recovery, Jonni. I had a stent placed into the 'Widowmaker' about 8 years ago. You are absolutely correct, regular check-ups and the kind of specific testing you recommended is the wise course of action.

Especially for any coots over 50!

Godspeed in your recovery...

John

Too many great drums to list here!

My sentiments exactly, John. You already know how I feel but, I just wanted to emphasize how much you are respected in this community.

I had emergency surgery last weekend, but my surgeon was kind enough to provide me with a plentiful supply of morphine when I went home. Glad you are doing ok, now quit eating anything that tastes good!

im so glad to here your ok, im telling you this is all about the way we grew up if we have health issues we wait till something happens because we are from the super man era only kyptonite can hurt us and we put off till tomorrow what we are to do today we all need to take care of ourselves and for our family i know im not ready to go but even with all the preventive measures we can take, if our time is up its up the Man upstairs pull's our card we have to go, maybe He give's us warnings because we are still needed in Gods greater plan and wants us to be here for a while so your right time to step up and take care of business, gee back to what i said a while back if one of us here passes on how would we know, my wife does not even know much about the vdf and passwords etc to say oh gary aka jaghog is no more, not that many members would take a nod, but some would, she dont even know my handle i don't think even if she did she would say anything there should be a protocol set in if a member is not on for a while to inquire we should have back up email for that purpose oh well i guess im to old just rambling glad ur still here Johnny ........and the band plays on

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Always good to know what is going on with your body, and I would have to say this isn't just for the older guys/gals here. Im 22 years old and had my 3rd open heart surgery 3 weeks ago. Currently recovering and no drums for awhile. :(

But it must be done. My condition wasn't preventable, I eat great and stay in great shape, but even I've had to go through it.
