Well I have bit the bullet and bought a pre Ludwig, looks like an early model with the smooth footplate, It has to be shipped to the UK so will take some time but it will be anice addition to the collection, if I love it I'll look for another as a backup and become a ghost rider.

Thanks to all for your help

Ok sorry to re-ignite such an old posting but somebody was shipping the pedal for me etc blah blah. Anyway I got it two weeks ago and I love it, I think I have found my sole mate (see what I did there?)

What a great piece of engineering this is and from what I have discovered mine is early 50s. I'm very impressed, now I just need to find another as backup.

Ahhh... you've found your sole mate! Well, that's a step in the right direction...

Ah hem...

I've got a pre Ludwig Ghost that I purchased brand new a long long time ago. I liked it then, but haven't used it in about 40 years.

Have 1, pre Ludwig. Just started using it again after finally getting a

new 2 way beater, I prefer a plastic beater over a felt.

Smooth as silk and the quietest pedal I have because all my other pedals have out board springs. I think I need to adjust it, which as other posters said is a real pain. Was actually thinking about welding the bottom foot board some

way to stop the bottom thing from popping out of the holes towards the

clamp end.

Found it!!

I have been through so many pedals over my 40 odd years of playing, I used Gretsch floating actions for a while tried DW 5000 hated it, expensive mistake that one, used a Pearl eliminator for a while, but I have a real problem with pedals that wont fold up they take so much space up.

Anyway the JoJo pedal came out and it seemed to answer all my prayers so I bought one and it's a great pedal but it's finicky, I have 3 kits and you have to mess around setting it up for each hoop, I also had a couple of incidents of the spring coming loose at gigs.

Then I saw this early 50s Ghost on US ebay, I remember seeing the later ones when I was a kid but had never tried one. I honestly feel I've been losing out for years. Pedals are such a personal feel thing, it's not going to be for everybody but I love it.

Thanks for posting the other thread, some good info there, I'm keeping my eyes peeled for another couple of early ones in case mine breaks down.
