Hi all, I know there are drum shells out there made from perspex etc, but does anyone know or has anyone came across a fully functioning kit made out of glass????

Crazy question i know but its just that i was thinking of making one, perhaps a fully functioning replica of a vintage ?????? any ideas?

regards

Sure... Glass, with a whole lot of protective caging. Not overly practical I'm thinking.

yeah i can see your point, thanks for the link to the one on ebay.

i have to say that the one on ebay looks rubbish. that is not what i had in mind at all and i certainly wouldn't cover it in caging.

I would be making the drums from high quality single pieces of material the correct diameter, formed and drilled by myself to take lugs, rims and mounting brackets, to the exact specifications of whatever kit i replicate.

The only design flaw that i can foresee, is one of resonance, i may have to experiment a bit.

The risk of the glass being broken or damaged through use would be minimal, stresses caused by tension can be reduced easily by using dampners under the rims.

Still...wow. The close-ups show a lot of engineering in those drums.
