hopefully purdie shuffle will see this. he bought a set of transition badge drums a few years ago that had an uncataloged wrap at the time. we finally decided that they were authentic and very uncommon. i just looked at some pics of that kit and the wrap looks a lot like it.

Wouldn't that be the 1960 catalog finish of "Jet Black Pearl"? Even thought it's a sparkle/glitter finish Ludwig calls it a pearl finish in the catalogs here. Really nice looking snare too!! I love the Classic strainer, very nice.

Glenn.

Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

Pic of a 55 WFL snare re-ring. Looks close to the same size as yours.

You guys are making me feel a lot better. The unfaded parts of the wrap seem to be darker with a bit of a purple hue when I hold it up into the sunlight.

Gerald - It is the real-deal! I'm with my honcho, Mike, the drum looks good, actually excellent, to my eyes. Look at the color of this 59' trans badge kit I owned: (At the time I was calling it bugundy, but as you can see, it's something else.)

Sleep well tonight... I don't think you got 'skunked' at all. That's a sweet snare drum you bought there, and rare.

Congrats,

John

Too many great drums to list here!

surely a date stamp wouldn't have survived a repaint? I suppose it could have been re-stamped but unlikely IMO. It's a beautiful drum all the same.

Gerald,

Nice looking drum! I'm with the ones on here who think this drum is the real deal. Just my opinion, however, based upon the information as presented. As most of you know, I DO put a lot of things "together," but when I sell a rebuilt/refurbished drum I always make sure that potential buyers know the facts. I can only hope that was the way this seller was with you!

And John, those are GREAT looking drums! I take it you don't own that set anymore?

'Had to' sell it about a year ago. I still miss it.
