Gotta know if this is SHILL bidding - please help Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Hi

If a bidder only has seller activity and no buyer activity would that be cause for suspicion regarding bidding on something ........making the price all of a sudden go very high near the end of the bidding process....an eBay auction?

Ahh... ya changed the question. LOL but yes looked like a shill bid to me. I didn't see the auction had a set reserve.

Yes - the auction was at the starting price for days....right up until the end. Then one of the bidders started to bid against the pretty much one and only bidder. I looked at the competative bidder and he/she only has Seller information....lots of selling - drums/parts etc. no buying. So I'm thinking why is that bidder only interested in this one item (bidding to buy = the price keeps going up) when they've not bought other stuff.....just sold stuff.

I'd say yes seeing how I don't see that there was a reserve price set. Would be normal to see small bids up to the sellers reserve. But this one looks like shill bidding to me. Seller should just start it near the price he wants or make it a BIN and be done with it.

I see now......it looks more like the bidder in question was trying to find the max bid of the other buyers. He had $5-10 bid increments. Hard to say but either a timid buyer or shill.

I would say it could be a timid buyer if it were not for his eBay record. When I click on his ebay user name there is ONLY sell information....he has lots of that....lots of drums stuff.....but no BUYING. That's where my suspicions come in......am I wrong???

The problem of course, is to get ebay to recognize such things. They are very afraid to direct their attention to such activities. It might open a can of worms.------ seller would have to participate in such activities over and over and over before their gaze would pull focus.

Have ran into this before and found out that the person had 2 accounts.......buys on one only, then sells on another as for people not to know what he/she has paid or stripped. Possibly this person forgot that they were on the wrong account when bidding? Just a thought.
