Gretsch 20,12,14 -58ish Black Nitron 3-ply Bass Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Loading...

3 piece 20,12,14 kit from the 50's...Remo heads fit nicely. Bass drum heads spin like a top. The 12 and 14 were re-wrapped sometime in the 80's. The Bass drum is the original and a 3-ply shell. The consolette is missing from the bass. Hoops are original with original paint but Inlays are from Precision Drum. Hardware on these drums is beautiful, especially on the 12 and 14..no pitting, just bright and shiny... some of the nicest I have seen on a Gretsch set. Most importantly, the drums sound killer..just like all those Jazz records from the 50's and 60's. Bass drum being original does have more scratches and wear than the other two, including what seems to be the occasional cigarette burn. The 14" has an extra diamond mount that was there when I got them, and missing one muffler.....All 3 drums have Silver Sealer and they are from before the Orange Paper Tag days.

I was going to re-wrap these and keep them but decided to do a Super-Bowl Sale....$1275 Shipped in the Lower 48...Paypal Gift or please add the 3%

One pre-eBay price reduction

$1150 shipped to the lower 48 SOLD to a forum member

I'm definitely not insinuating any fraud or misleading here, but just curious how you identify them as 50's. I'm not well versed in Gretsch dating, but from the little I've observed, 50's kits usually had stick choppers and these sizes usually didn't appear till the 60's. Of course it could've been a custom order thing. Just trying to be better educated on Gretsch.

Also, is the bass drum lacquer or wrap? Looks like that extra plate on the floor tom would have been used for a cymbal mount.

They came as part of a kit with a 3-ply 18" bass drum. I had checked with a resident expert and to the best of his determination they were the 58 era. Bass drum is a 3 ply and by 58' almost all of the drums were switched to 6-ply. Also, I mentioned the diamond plate on the 14 in my ad and I too believe it was used for an additional cymbal arm. Bass drum is Black Nitron

Btw, where did you get the info that these sizes usually weren't seen till the 60's? I have seen many 50's kits in these sizes.

Aaaagggh!!!! I think I almost had myself convinced to buy them & my wife was looking like she'd go for it. Dang it!!!

As far as why I thought these sizes didn't appear till the 60's, that's just based on what I've seen for sale & observed. Again, I haven't researched Gretsch really, so that was why I was asking. Good to know though. Something about the 50's drums has me hooked. Too bad I missed these.
