I've got a chance to acquire a 20" round badge lacquered BD and a chrome 8-lug Gretsch round badge snare for next to nothing. The BD is missing some claws and tom holder. The snare has a broken throw-off handle.(not unusual, I hear) Is it practical to try to acquire a 8x12 and a 14x14 in rough shape, the missing parts and re-cover the lot? Or don't orphan Gretsch toms show up that often? I've ALWAYS wanted a Gretsch RB kit but the price for a nice one is prohibitive. As long as I'm dreaming... did Gretsch use silver sparkle or silver glass glitter?
Gretsch advice? Opinions please?? Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Beat up 12 and 14 might surface eventually , but I'd bet it'd be a while , and even if a 14x14 round badge turned up on Ebay it'd fetch a nice price . Are you planning to re-cover yourself or pay a pro ?
Gretsch did use glass glitter .
1967 Ludwig Super Classic Oyster Blue Pearl
Yamaha Birch Custom Absolute Burgundy Spkl. bop
etc...
A Rack tom and the missing hardware is easily acquireable via eFlay....just with some patience and a decent budget.
As Jazzbo said, though...it is the 14x14 which will make you feel some PAIN.
They come up, but a 14x14 by ANY major vintage company is always very pricey. I mean, I'd say look at spending about 2 bill$ for one, at least.
Maybe worth considering a 16 ", which are more common and go for significantly less (?)
