So awhile back I acquired this really cool old Gretsch Cocktail drum for 20 bucks at a Garage sale. It had some extra holes and the bottom head was added later as well. So I decided I would roll with it and just fill the existing extra holes with some cool attachments. I am almost done with the project and just noticed the drum had a re-ring under the top head which I thought Gretsch drums did not have. This is a 3-ply Brooklyn Shell not the later Jasper. So I am wondering if Gretsch ever used re-rings on any of their drums and if I should (or is it even possible) to remove the re-ring. What do you think!

Gretsch used rings on their 1940's & earlier drums. By the early fifties they were using 3 ply drums w/ out rings. Your drum seems to have the old shells w/ the new lugs (started in 1950). (This may help date your drum to that transitional time frame).

So what do we think Gretsch guys ? Was this re-ring added later and if so should I remove it? Is that even possible without damaging the drum? Input please!
