Gretsch experts please help Last viewed: 7 hours ago

Are Gretsch tension rods the same as Ludwig? I did a shell for my drum teacher and he needs tension rods for it. So we are asking if the ones from drumfactorydirect.com will work. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi Jeff, far as I know all 4 major American drum manufacturers used the same thread - NC24 something....I used to know it but forgot. But almost 100% certain they are interchangeable.

Yes all american drums have same tension rods. The difference is in the length.

drumfactorydirect.com sells tension rods, they are all #12-24 thread and are 7/32" diameter

These worked fine on my Ludwig drums, same for Gretsch?

Thank you!

Most all Vintage American rods are 12-24 thread. I do have a few 40's single tension marching drum rods which are smaller, probably 10-24. The difference in the rods is the profile shape of the square head. There is a good possibility that rods were specifically made for the individual US companies or maybe even in-house.
