Gretsch Help Needed Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Loading...

I've been spending my free time lately cataloging some of my vintage snare drums. I'm attempting to accurately date this Gretsch Progressive Jazz snare drum that I picked up some time ago. The Serial Number on the Gretsch label is 26075.

Initially I believed that the wrap on this one was a White Satin Flame but I can't find that particular wrap in the Gretsch catalogs that I've reviewed. I did, however, find a Silver Satin Flame wrap. Did Gretsch actually make a White Satin Flame?

Any information regarding the drum in general and/or the specific date of manufacture and wrap would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS in advance for your time and your help!

Oldschool. that is "silver satin flame", they never had a White Satin Flame, but the colors are on the back of my 1965 gretsch catalog.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Mid-1960's is about the best you can nail it down to. And the color is officially called Silver Satin Flame, as stated above. Other companies called it white satin flame, but it is one in the same color. Hence the confusion on the name, much like how Ludwig had a color called sky blue pearl, Gretsch offered the same finish but called it midnight blue pearl.

oldschool,

I cannot provide an estimate that is any more accurate than what was discussed last year. http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=10493 At that time, it looked like 1964 was a reasonable estimate. I am afraid that you are not likely to get an answer that is any more precise.

I have collected information on many more drums am getting closer to having something that can be published for everyone's use.

Nice one Rick. Love how you remembered this exact drum was already covered. Not sure why the same question is being asked again.

KCDrumDad: THANKS for the feedback. At my age I've got enough trouble remembering what I did yesterday, let alone information provided a year ago. I obviously need to start cataloging as soon as the information is provided. I apologize for not noting the referenced post earlier. Looking forward to your planned publication!

Nice one Rick. Love how you remembered this exact drum was already covered.

This drum seemed familiar, so I looked up the thread. If I don't remember, I may have the serial number in the log. I record where I get information, so it would have led me back to vdf.

Of course, I don't have all my own drums cataloged like oldschool is doing. I need to do that for my wife's sake.

Sometimes you can find stuff posted last year by searching key words.. Not sure if this one could be found that way or not.
