Did Gretsch use different types of shells between their kit drums and marching drums? Different wood, different number of plys or different overall shell thickness?

I have a 1970 SSB#1 marching snare with natural unsealed wood on the inside, 6-ply, 45 degree bearing edges and it's really thin. Were the marching snares just tom shells? Did Gretsch use thicker shells for their kit snare drums?
