This is a very cool WFL snare. What strainer is that? It looks like the center bead was flattened so it could be installed--kinda weird........marko

That is a great looking military WFL snare.

Here are some detailed pictures of the outer wood ply of the shell and the bearing edge. Correct me if I'm seeing things, but it looks like this is a 3 ply shell with an outer ply of Mahogany.

I used lemon oil to clean the outer finish.

Just finished putting the drum back together and I think it's good for another 60+ years now. Those COB stick-chopper hoops are really soft. I'm going to keep the rims, but I'm also going to order a set of those Gretsch 302 hoops from Steve Maxwell.

I had another 4 point strainer on a SSB marcher that was a lot smoother, so I swapped the strainers. Remember this shell had extra holes and it's not a collector grade drum, so I felt comfortable with the swap.

I currently have a coated Ambassador on the top, an Ambassador snare on the bottom and a set of Responso wires. I have Remo Fiberskyn on order for the batter, so maybe it will tame some of the current overtones.

That is pretty amazing! I have a pre serial number 6.5x14 Ludwig Symphonic or Ray McKinney that is engraved with U.S.N so it was likely a US Navy drum. I'd love to find out what ship this drum was on.
