Hope it will help you!
This auction makes me angry.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130218578034&_trksid=p3907.m32&_trkparms=tab%3DWatchingThe thought of a person paying $400 for one of these blows my mind. Jeez, probably could have bought a round badge snare with it and end up either paying less or not much more.
Why so upset?....the buyer probably has a pristine/rare Gretsch snare drum that that strainer is perfect for...makes total sense to me...

Maybe, but when you put it into perspective, some guy just blew $400 on a little hunk of metal. Hope that doesn't come back to haunt him some day.
It is all supply and demand. If these were easy to acquire in mint shape then the price wouldn't be so high. I agree it is hard to swallow to pay that much for a faulty strainer though. But it is what it is.
I hope I don't offend anyone here, but I think the Microsensitive strainer is possibly the worst throw off design ever. I would take a Slingerland clamshell any day of the week over a micro. Having said that, I also feel it's possibly the coolest looking of all the strainers!Old School, if your luck is anything like mine, you will pay WAY too much money for your strainer, having searched far and wide for many months. Then, in the following month you will fall into 3 or 4 mint microsensitives for dirt cheap. Doh!
Definitely not the optimum strainer but if you are restoring a Gretsch snare drum then that is the strainer you need...a similar situation would be a Utility/Presto/Speedway strainer on an old Leedy snare drum..

Why would you say that? NOS parts are rare and the premium paid is worth it...The buyer obviously has the wherewithall to be able to afford it...why would you invalidate him/her and the purchase?

I agree. Its not our place to comment on how one,s money is spent.Look at the vintage Rogers market,OMG,the pricing for that gear is incredible!.Would i pay it??Of course i would....Have you ever put a puzzle together only to be missing one piece?Mind Blowi
Depends what you have into the stuff to begin with as well. My 1941 WFL marble set was all original except for the dual strainers on the snare. fortunately no extra holes were used and an adapter plate was used to spare drilling. I hunted for 5 years on e-bay to find the right parts as they have been discontinued since 1950. it was well worth it and besides I only had $400.00 into the whole set!
