Gretsch Round Badge Bass Drum Damper - Not Pratt What Is This? Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Hi guys,

I have the opportunity to buy a round badge gretsch set. The only issue I have found so far is on the bass drum. It has an internal damper drilled onto the side of the drum. I've never seen this type before. Does anyone have any idea as to what it is and if it devalues the set much - if so how much would it devalue? Any thoughts on this would be really appreciated.

I couldnt see your posted pics..but it is probably a Premiere..the type that is on the side of the bd and you turn the knob to make the mufflers dampen both heads at the same time..via a rack and pinion system..

These were sometimes put on the BD by a Boston drumshop..Jacks I think..it does not devalue the drum at all...they were put mostly on 3 plys I think..like mine below..

WOW!The BD muffler is the same one that was in my circa 1959 ....18,12,14 Starlite kit I USED to have!

The 18 BD and 14 by 14 were 6 ply,but the 12 was 3 ply I remember.....

"Always make sure your front bottom BD lugs clear the ground!"
