I was wondering when Gretsch started using the thinner wood shells. I have a wood kit from the early 70's (early 70's is a guess, based on the full orange/white interior tags and low SN's, and the clip-mount tom hardware. The snare and all the toms have the thinner shells, but the BD has a thicker shell (6 ply). The BD is missing its tag but the SSB#1 badge is unmolested. I would have to say it's definitely Gretsch. Would the factory ship a kit with this difference in shells? Would it even matter? The BD is a 22" in pretty good shape, except for someone's changing the tom mount to an old Pearl double mount. I don't really care about that, though. It'll just be for playing at home. The pic on the left is the BD and on the right is one of the mounted toms
I was just curious.
Thanks.
