Wow! They must have just arrived at Guitar Center for you to snag them. Unless you have a "lookout". ;)

This Progressive Jazz kit (optional 18" bass) is on page 6 of the 1971 catalog on the Gretsch website. Catalog page 13 has the 4 point rail with the tom diamond mount. I have the 20" bass equivalent kit from around the same year. I'm sure KCDrumDad would be interested in the serial numbers, if you don't mind.

No inside man I am just smart with computers. Well before the Army I went to a magnet school they trained us and let us students be as creative as possible with technology.

Will look at the serials for sure.

I agree with downtownfarmer, to a certain extent ;).. Leave that beauty with all it's mileage and glory, but clean up the chrome.. You'll have a gorgeous shabby chic vintage Gretsch that will certainly turn some heads.. Think of what companies like C&C drums are doing with their "weathered" looking kits like the "Crackled" series .. Beautiful drums..

Purposely made to look like they've been sitting in someone's attic for 50 years.. LOL !

Congrats on a superb find !

Hmmm ... webcrawling script that parses GC's webite Used section every hour for keywords and then e-mails you when there's a hit? ;)

Thanks guys! I am looking forward to it. I won't reveal all my secrets but who knows :) When I joined the Army on a Ranger contract I was doing something way different than I had for years as a computer and robot nerd. I admit I had no clue what I got myself into.

In other news....I don't think my drum students have any clue how cool a kit they get to play. I let them use my Camco kit.

I can't jump on everything. I learned to only keep a few kits and snares for myself. The rest I move on. Having a lot of cash on hand allows me to get things I want. It was hard to do that with a room full of drums. That it is one cool kit! Is that a progressive jazz snare I spy there?!
