Gretsch Stars and Stripes snare drum Last viewed: 1 hour ago
A quote from Sammy Davis Jr. talking about Buddy Rich
Cool drum; didn't know about the 9/11 assistance. Nice.
Now, the big question. Will YOU hit it?
Enjoy.

Great looking drum. Just wondering which drum shop you purchased it from in Michigan? I'm thinking perhaps Huber and Breese?
Very cool snare drum to have.I have all three pattern's of these snares.I don't know what numbers i have on each drum. That;s because i have never open the three box's the drums came in....Mikey
Glen, that is a gorgeous snare drum. came very close to buying one when introduced, Love Gretsch drums. and this one is a real collectors piece!
They are nice-to-have modern day collector's pieces. I remember seeing some in music stores when they first came out. I thought that the decorative exterior was a printed piece of cloth laminated to the shell. I also remember that the cardboard boxes in which they were packed sounded better than the drums.
Very cool! If you ever decide to open them up I'd like to see them. Gretsch has made some nice newer drums. I just make sure it's made in the USA and not Taiwan.
I will post some photos maybe one of these days. But them again i have some Ludwig 1976-78 vistalite snares also a 5 pc set in Green still in the boxes they came in .Still have not open them up....Mikey
55 very nice snare. Having the factory brochure is a great add on. I never saw one of these thanks for posting pics!
Mikey you have some strong will power to keep those boxes factory sealed. I would have cracked into the vistas and snares long ago if they were mine. LOL. I can't leave things well enough alone. Good stuff~! :)
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

Your post about drums in original shipping boxes reminded me of two things I was personally involved with.
The first one is my discovery of a Slingerland Green Glass Glitter drum set in the attic of Chicago's oldest music store that was going out of business. I bought those new-in-box drums that had been up there since they arrived at the store fifteen year earlier. The store ordered a fifth drum for me. I drove to the Slingerland factory to get the new drum with one of the drums I bought from the store. The new one matched perfectly.
The other story is from when I was the Fender District Sales Manager visiting one of my customers at his store in Corpus Christi, Texas. He told me about his prized collectible 25th Anniversary Stratocaster that he bought in 1979 when it first was issued. This was a year before I started my 30 year career with Fender (Rogers and Rhodes, too). The first run of the guitars was painted in a silvery white color that was the first use of a new water-based paint to meet the California air pollution laws. Fender ended up replacing every one of them for dealers or consumers because the paint and the undercoat didn't react well with each other. This store owner had kept his guitar in its unopened shipping carton for about five years until he got the urge to open it, and offer it for sale. He opened the cardboard box, and removed the commemorative guitar case. Then he opened the case....SURPRISE! There sat a naked Stratocaster surrounded by a whole guitar's worth of paint flakes. He still thought that this first run guitar was worth a lot of money to the right collector. A far as I know, he still has it.
I've heard Gretsch made many mistakes in shipping those snare drums out. Usually there was a cheap Taiwan brass snare in the box instead of the 75th anniversary snares.
Just kidding Mikey!!!
