I'm trying to figure out what method you use to replace grommits. I've seen a few tools ez grommit tool $$$ and one from percisiondrum for five bucks. anybody use ball bearings and a ballpeen hammer? Almost done with the 60's sling restoration. I'm supposed to sell them but Ill most likely keep them.

many years ago used the ball bearing and ball peen hammer method it will work but it isn't factory looking. I own the real tool from old Kentucky drummer not cheap but I work on a lot of drums it has paid for itself many times over.

The tool VM2k mentions is well worth the money, even if you only do one drum.

+1, gives a factory look that I could never achieve with any of the less expensive methods.

yeah, I made my own. it works pretty good. then I borrowed one of the old Kentucky drums model from a buddy. it did a nicer job I think. for tightening a loose grommet, I place a ball peen hammer on the back of the grommet and hit it with a claw hammer. have done that a few times successfully.

I also made my own tool at first, but then I finally broke down and purchased the actual tool from Old Kentucky Drums. I should have done that from the start! Great tool - works so well.

also the ones form detroit drum exchange are excellent I use both of them, I have never understood when you spend hundreds of dollars on wrap and the time and trouble to install it then you cheap out on the grommet install with a cheap amateur DYI tool which is the job it leave on the grommet.
