Just wanted to wish a happy and peaceful Victory Day to all. May we never have to fight again...

And because this is a drum forum, here's a short clip of huge dance on the main square of Czech town Pilsen, the largest town liberated by US troops in May 1945. To the end of the video, you can see a jazz band (including a fine drumkit) playing on a truck.

Great post Gilnar!

This is also a reminder about what a gift American Jazz and our culture was to the rest of the world. To see people joyfully doing the boogy-woogy in Prague is a testament to how powerful and pervasive our American culture really was/is.

Too many great drums to list here!

It is true. You should read some works of Josef Škvorecký, famous czech author, who emmigrated to Canada after soviet occupation in 1968. He was a huge jazz fan and a tenor-saxophonist. He wrote numerous short stories and books about jazz in Czechoslovakia, before, during and after the war. He's one of my most favourite writers. He could capture the atmosphere of czech jazz subculture and its clashes with nazis and communists in a really captivating and bittersweet way. I recommend the novel 'Cowards,' at the very least.
