Hey everyone. I'm possibly planning a trip to Istanbul and I was wondering if any of you had been there and bought some cymbals. I'll be staying near the grand bazaar, but I don't mind traveling out if it means finding nice cymbals. I'm looking for any advice or tips on where to go cymbal hunting. I'm open to new or vintage - the key is good sound and good value... and hopefully some sweet cymbals and cool stories. From what I've heard, I have no delusions of being able to find a honey hole of old K's as I understand that many of them are fakes (but that said, apparently some of the fakes are still awesome cymbals). I'm interested in hearing your stories. What did you find? Where did you go? What did you get to see?
Has anyone bought cymbals in Turkey? Last viewed: 14 minutes ago

There are plenty of shops there that sell "Turkish" cymbals. If you pay in euros you will get a lot more bang for your buck :) The way the EU is setup though don't think you can always get an amazing deal in a neighboring EU country. Especially if they have a US distributor. I have some Turkish and Bulgarian friends so I can ask them a little. A lot of Germans to go Türkei for holidays.

I know the mgr. he hand picked and shipped my two Istanbul Sultan cymbals from Turkey. They are the best cymbals I've ever played or owned. They sound just like old K's without the huge price-tag. Check them out when you're there.
Safe travels...

There is an area called Taksim square, over the bridge, on the Asia side of Istanbul... This where all of the music stores are..lots of places sell cymbals that you may never has heard of.. Not fakes just local brands, start ups etc.. Worth having a play on some. Taksim square is a short taxi ride from the middle of Istanbul, lots of coffee shops, book stores.. It's the bohemian section of town, I would encourage you to find a little drum store called the "drum club shop" google it for the address.. Despite the lack of English on their website the owner has good English, is well respected jazz drummer and they have a stack of great old and new cymbals in the shop.. If they don't have it they will get it. When I went to the bazaar I saw one shop selling cymbals...out of approx 7,000.. No kidding.. Worthwhile going but not for cymbals. I went on a tour of the Bosphorus factory.. Simply awesome the way they looked after me, the choices of cymbals, the prices, everything. You won't find the factory by yourself, you have more chance of discovering a new planet. I suggest emailing them, and Istanbul, and all others to see if you can visit and pick you up. The Bos people picked me up from the hotel and took me back (the return trip cost some dollars, in a very pos car.. But everyone else was off to the football (soccer) and that was all that mattered. Was it good? we're the prices good? I bought 25 cymbals... Bo's,Agop, Istambul. Tells you something!
Turkey is the best trip I have ever had, and I've been all over the place. Enjoy Turkey, the people and the history.. And a few cymbals
Cheers
