At a festival saturday, the band I drum for had about 40 minutes to play before the parade came by. I was told there would NOT be any drums for me to use. I bring my 66 Clubdates. I get there and there is a brand new set of drums on the stage MIC'ED UP and everything. I decided to use mine so the other drummer could take off. BUt the boys took all of the drum mic's for there singing. Then the mixer board got screwed up for 3 songs at least, my monitor was a bunch of static. I friend came up and send" we can't hear your drums" The singers FORGOT their mic's so they used my drum mic's. I was told to use sticks on all of the songs, which if you know country does not work on some songs.I guess I was suppose to use the 2 x 4's I used as a young buck trying to imitate Ginger Baker??!! We finally got the PA idiot to dial everything in and we got off some good music, but half of the people left by then and the owner of the stage pulled the plug because the parade was getting close to our"stage".Sound check? "no just start playing,we will catch things as we play" does not work.Stoned PA fellows do not work out either.

Bummer, I'd say that out off all the shows we play around the country this happens about...oh....90% of the time LoLoLoLo

Don't let it get to you man, It's hard as a musician because 99.9999999999% of people you come into contact within the music industry, feel like your an inconvenience. The door guy, the bar tender, the owner, and the sound guys/gals usually forget that if you weren't there to play, they'd all be without a job that night. So usually, they treat you like they never had anything to do with this whole idea of you playing music. Gotta shrug it off, or you'll wanna quit.

Ugh...lesson to be learned from this is to do as much advance work as possible and be as completely prepared as you can be once on site. Any gig that lacks management is a hassle and you are almost always on your own. Sometimes there is just nothing you can do to make things go well. On the bright side you now have another "remember that time..." story to add to your collection of, what I like to refer to as "gigmares".

What a drag. But isn't the drummer the most neglected member of the band? You should have stormed off in protest & left them a tambourine.

quick switch to : I read a review a new documentary on Ginger Baker called "Beware of Mr. Baker" - just thought I'd pass that along after reading your Baker interest.
