heads and snares 66 acro Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Just got a 66 acrolite snare shell. What heads and snares would you guys recommend? I have a steel shell Pearl Chad Smith snare, and I love the Remo CS batter(dot underneath head). Trying to decide between this and just a plain ole' coated ambassador....

Also, trying to decide on snares. I'm thinking Puresound Custom Pro snares, but trying to decide between steel and brass. Any one tried either of these?

In my experience the coated emperor it's a great head for the acrolite. Can sound a little thin with single ply IMO. I was just usin standard 42s with it. Sounded killer

YEa i was even thinking about that. I have an emperor on my 41 luddy snare and I really like the warmth it gives.

Man, if you can score some NOS Ludwig heads, batter and snare, that's the way to go. For some reason, the heads that came with the drum are the ones that make it sound the best, to my ears anyway. Just a suggestion. Otherwise, an Evans Hazy 300 for the snare side (cranked) with a good quality coated batter, REMO or Evans (I like the Evans EC II Control Dot head,) will make it sing.

Enjoy the drum whatever you end up using. They are great work-horse snares. Useable sounds for any musical situation.

Too many great drums to list here!

lots of stuff sounds great on these drums. ive commonly used coated ambassador batters with diplomat snare side. recenlty ive been using ludwig weathermaster mediums on top with ludwig snare side heads. as far as wires, i like the original ludwig wires. even if a wire or two is snipped off or stretched a bit. they just sound right to me. the 2517124 ludwig amber resin tip wires are my favorites though.
