I'm a little confused by what I've read here. If I understand the general consensus, the recommended heads for 3 ply vintage Ludwigs are Coated Emperor batter side and Coated Ambassador reso side, but I've also read the opinion that multi-ply heads aren't recommended for 3ply drums. Aren't the Emperors two 7.5 plies? The drums are 3ply 9X13 10X14 16X18 18X20 and 14X24. I'm looking for a vintage look and thick rich sound, but even more than that I just want them to sound the best they can. They will need a lot of "taming" as the two floor toms sound like tympani. Are these heads a good choice for such big loud drums? Thanks for your patience with a noob covering such typical territory.
