I've been giving the Leed/Slingerland snare some TLC. When I started tuning, the reso head puled lose. No shock given its age....
But I replaced the reso with an Evans, and found that the hoop was too think. The snare strings stuck between the hoops and the rim.
It looks like the external diameter is the same, but just doing a visual and 'feel,' it feels like the hops on the head are thinner.
Does this call for a special head -- as in one of the American Vintage? The head itself seats on the shell...but it doesn't turn easily on the shell. What's the scoop?
