Hearing protection? Last viewed: 21 minutes ago

if you're interested in laying down around $200 for some pro earplugs then marshall chasin is the guy to see here in toronto. you can find him here: http://www.hearnet.com/affiliates/view.php?type=1

am assuming on that site you can find somebody close to you. or he would probably know someone.

he does the custom molds to your ears and then makes plugs that reduce noise 15 or 25 decibels evenly. i don't play loud music for the most part these days but these puppies saved my life when i was playing the rock music for the kids. and when laying out that kind of bread you learn how not to lose them!

From Mike T

he is Grateful to be a Dead head... :) I played for way to many years in front of Marshall and Vox Stacks, I have tennitis and I have it bad a cymbal crash now puts my ears in orbit so whatever you use be consistent with ear protection I now use noise cancelling earphones plugged into a mixer I adjust everything for my ears confort.I use these and they work awesome..EX25 Professional Studio Recording Isolation Headphones

I was looking at buying the X25. But man, some of the reviews really blast the quality of the construction. Too much plastic. Break very easily.

Had any trouble with yours?

the best you can get and cheap:

Etymotic ER-20

The patented Hi-Fi technology behind these unique earplugs lets you hear all the frequencies just as if you had no plugs in, but at a lower volume level. The triple flange design produces a good seal in most ear canals, yielding accurate performance and a comfortable fit for nearly everyone.

ER-20 Hi-Fi ear plugs reduce the volume by about 20 db--just enough to prevent damage to your hearing, but not so much that you lose the enjoyment of the music. The ER-20 has an NRR of 12 rather than 20 because the frequency weighting used in the NRR calculation assumes blocking of higher frequencies more than of lower frequencies and these plugs do not do that. They are designed to let you hear the full range of music. ER-20 plugs are washable, reusable and durable. With proper care they will last for months even with daily use. Sold with sturdy carrying cases in quanities of 1. All packs include the carry case with each pair of plugs.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I use earbuds when I'm playing along to tracks and the foam inserts when I'm just playing. The company I work for has dispensers all over the shop and I grab a couple here and there as I am walking about. I wear glasses so the over ear don't seem to work for me.

Was wondering if Fatty ever found a decent pair of ear plugs for protection.

Has anybody ever tried using Hearos High Fidelity ear plugs? They cost about $15 bucks at GC and claim you still hear the highs and lows while reducing db's by 20%. These are similar to the Etymotic ER-20 plugs mentioned somewhere in this thread.

I could stick my expensive Shure earbuds in but they make the kit sound really bad. Is this what happens with any type of plugs you buy?

Good tip here - take the Hearos plug, pull it off, put it onto your Shure head phones. Best of both worlds.

I was using the Shure in ear head phones, but they broke on Sunday.

Just bought a pair of AKG IP2:

And as a side note, I saw these which might do a similar thing to the Hearo sleeves:

For at home, I use Direct Sound Extreme Issolation Headphone - I have two pairs. Fantastic stuff.

I am likely to get some proper molded in ears later this year, tho. When I can afford it.
