Hello - First post about '55 Ludwig snare Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Loading...

Hello all - my name is Peter and I go by repete on some of the other forums...this is my first time visiting here. A friend's mother is looking to find out more info on this snare drum she sent me. The interior date is Oct 1955 - I'm trying to find out a fair selling price on it. On another forum I was told it is a Pioneer model - I am guessing based on the color it is mahogony? The snare is all original -

Thanks in advance for any info!

Peter

Pete, the info that was given to you on the DFO is correct, it's a Wfl supreme concert model the Pioneer name is for ludwig but the same drum essentially, with the drum, case, sticks and stand at least $250.00 the sticks look to be 60's ludwigs

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

beautiful pioneer. the difference between a pioneer and the more desirable jazz fest is that the jazz fest is an 8 lug. id say 250 is a good quote

old drums are pretty neat!

Hey Pete, man you did a good job and a correct one I might add! You got a real time capsule here, original drums, snare wires calf heads or head, case, stands and sticks, what's writing on the sticks? have you played it yet, maybe telling what you already know pioneers sound better not tensioned up high, more a medium tuning, then they are in their element!

Haven't played it yet...no markings on the sticks that I can see. The stand is in great shape! All moving parts are smooth, even the rubber feet are intact.

well done on the rehab. looks real good. i took the original calf off of my snare side because the calf batter was torn. thinking i might wanna slip mine back on and try it.

those era stands are my favorite. almost all of my wfl/ludwig stands have those style feet. they just look right to me. plus, they match my wfl 1121 hi hat feet too.

Those 50s shells with mahogany interiors and nice bearing edges on the WFL/Ludwig pioneer snare drums creates a better-sounding snare drum by far than the 60s era Jazz Festivals, even though they only have 6 lugs versus the 8 on the Jazz Fest snares. Both are great drums though.
