Help a Good cause Last viewed: 52 minutes ago

Hi to All,

As I have mentioned in past posts my son and I do percussion clinics for the local school districts. We are adding a marching snare section to the program this year and because of one of the great members of the forum (Thanks again Billnvick !!) have been able to purchase a older Ludwig marching snare .

Its a early 70s?(3 ply/with rings /grey granitone finish) at a very reasonable cost. Two items that we still need to finish this great old drum is a Ludwig marching snare drum shoulder strap. This way we will be able to use the drum for the program in a standing formation and allow the students to see and try how the drum was used in performance.

We would also like to find a Blue/Olive badge for me to finish off the restoration I need to do when it arrives. (the unit we are getting doesn't have one) not the end of the world I just want it to look as good as possible.

We do these clinics using our own funds and used up this portion of the budget on the drum. If anyone has an old strap or badge that they would be willing to sell very cheaply or better yet DONATE to a good cause please PM me or leave a post reply. You will a helping a good cause and a lot of young drummers in the beginning of their musical careers. All of the guys in the forum have been great and everyone I have talked to has gone out of their way to help me with this project. In these tough economic times so many students have lost the ability to take private lessons because their folks just do not have the funds and the schools music programs are falling by the wayside because of budget cuts. This is why I do these and invite others to do so. I'd rather have these kids have the ability to express themselves in their music instead of other things that the world offers them. Sorry for the soapbox but it's really important to me.

If anyone might be able to help let me know. It doesn't have to look beautiful just something that works and is functional .

Thanks again to all

DR,

I have a badge that came off of a marching snare. Not in the best of shape but if you're interested shoot me an address and I'll drop it in the mail. S/N: 1514692. I do not have a grommet though.

I also have a P-87 throw-off and matching butt for cat-gut snares if you would happen to need that.

Dad Roadie - PM me your mailing address. I don't have a badge or a strap on hand, but I'd like to send you a little $ so you can buy one for the kids if you have to.

Shoot me your info in a PM.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Dad Roadie- It is heartwarming to see others that do this. (Actually, there are many here that are anonymous) I am in the process, very, very slowly, of putting together yet another donor kit. PM me if you might have a student that is SUPER deserving of a kit. (I am very tight on my donor kits as far as qualifying) Likely will be a jungle as I have some odd shells to get out, but who knows? Could be a 20 out there somewhere in the garage heap...I know there is a 15 and several 12 and 13s that are different depths. I like using deep-dish 13s for floor toms.

There are many others here, Purdie not the least of which, that have donated to my cause before. I do it for the kids, (and maybe a little for my own salvation), but when we give, we love, and when we love, we live, for a longer life, away from this place.

Hi to All,

The the drum from billnvick (see picture / got to love the color!) and the badge from superclassic. Thanks to both of you and everyone that has helped and offered help on this project. Going to start the restore soon and will post pictures when it's complete. I still need to find a strap for the drum. If anyone out there has one that they would be willing to sell cheaply or DONATE for a good cause please PM me.It doesn't need to be pretty, just functional. This way the students will be able to try the drum as it was originally used.

Thanks again to all

To All,

Just a strap update,

Beside asking members of this great forum I also on a very long shot contacted several of the schools were we do the clinics (along with a picture) to check their old bins and boxes and see if they may have one around. I apologize I should have thought to do this first! Lo and behold got an email this morning and eureka! one of them found one in the bottom of one of the instrument parts boxes. They had it for years and didn't even know what instrument it was for so our project parts list is complete and good to go. Thanks to everyone that took time to look and especially jaghog for going way beyond the call and trying to connect. He even offered to deliver it! It again shows me the great people that are connected with this forum.

I'll post some photo's when everything is complete.

Thanks again to all!
