Anyone have any idea what type of model drum kit this is?
Hi there everybody!!!!
B/O rounded badge Serial number 2.2xx.xxx indicates the drum was born, with some accuracy, on 1982 (according my experience and "feeling", late part).
It has some clues who makes me think that it could be - as was said by Eric - like an early " Rockers - Big Beat Config. (As K.O. said, heads do not indicated such thing at all )
Nonetheless, if we pay atention, this kit have some points....:(
1. B/o badge was definetly not to Rockers during running production ...
2. Retracting 1/2"bass drum spurs were inc. in the Classic series
3. Painted interior was opposite to clear maple at Classics
4. We can see the "older" type of tom mount (remember that early 80's was the moment of the modular system) reserved to the Rockers series according '84 catalogs.
5. BD Hoops looks like unoriginal, but...
I guess the best way to find out this, is to take a close look (and detail picture) of the shells, in order to determine if these are 4 or 6 ply... this could be the answer..
Please don't let us with the intrigue.... take the Camera!!!Excited
I have the same bass drum and a 10x14" tom these are not rockers series, the painted interior is a grey paint much like gretsch paint. I wasn't able to find squat about these drums when I first bought them. I still have mine also,
well regardless of what it is, Is this going to be a good sounding drum kit? I hope its a big beat of some kind
Early MTV era kit, I'd suppose. Nice drums regardless of their ID.
Whats an MTV kit? Im sorry
That serial number probably puts it around late1980 into 81.

There are/were no "big beat" model Ludwig drums of any kind. All the top line drums they made at that time had exactly the same shells (6 ply maple/poplar) regardless of what outfit they came with. "Big Beat" was an outfit configuration consisting of a 12/13/16/22 with a Supra and Atlas hardware. The exact same drums with flat based stands was a "Hollywood" outfit. Drop the 12" tom and you had a Super Classic.
The various names only refer to different configurations of the same types of drums. There were no different ply lay-ups or anything like that involved. It's not like today where they make eight different layups for different price points. They made only one type of drum which might end up with various hardware combinations and in any of the various outfits.
The Rockers were the exceptions, they did have a different shell, but I don't think that you have a set of those.
Not sure if this helps, but I did a little google-image tour last night, and the badge being closer to the batter side [as per the other thread on these] looks to have been pretty common. Maybe a 60/40 split favouring the batter side position according to the pics, though that is not particularly scientific. :)
So there's that...
