Help date Ludwig Set B/O Badge Last viewed: 44 minutes ago

Serial numbers all go 151XXXX on each of the drums. The set is a Big Beat in black cortex with pointy corner B/O badges and round knob mufflers positioned right above the badges on rack toms.

I've checked the guide online and can't seem to pinpoint a year for these numbers.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

I would guess 1977-79 but yes I understand what you mean from guides I've seen also. I am not sure it can be pinpointed.

Thanks for the rely. The shells have clear maple interiors so I was thinking early 70's. Also the pointed badge seems to be associated with early 70's, but I'm not too sure.

I have a set from late 1976 that I bought new and has 158xxxx numbers.

I would think yours would be early 1976, there about if we go by numbers but not always true.

Yes, they've all got re-rings. You can see the kit in the thread I started called Ludwigs wrapped in leopard fur.

I suggest that drums like yours

1. Three ply shells with re-rings,

2. Clear interiors,

3. Pointed corner Blue/Olive badges with serial numbers in the 151xxxx range, and

4. Tone controls mounted above the badges on the toms

are from the 1976 +/- time frame. This is consistent with the information that I have gathered.

Collecting information about the following for ongoing research projects:
Gretsch drums with serial numbers,
Ludwig Keystone and B/O badge drums with serial numbers and date stamps,
Ludwig Standards from 1968-73, and
Ludwigs with paper labels from 1971-72

Thanks, Wayne, Mlayton, Zach, KCDrumdad and whatshisname and whozit. Thanks everyone who commented. I'm happy with 76. Rocky, Taxi Driver and The Omen would have been showing in theatres. A good year. Good drums too. Cool1
