I have this Rope tension drum that is 12" dia X 18" deep. It was associated with The John Robinson Circus and later Ringling Brothers. I have never seen a drum this size in a catalog. Custom made? Has a L&L badge under paint.

Any info is appreciated.

I am wondering if it was for a canister seat. Seems like the right size.

I wondered that too but it is too early. Pre-drumset. Here's what I know: It has written on the inside in chalk "property of John H Robinson Circus. That show opened in 1842 and closed in 1911 so it has to be earlier than that. By 1930 Ringling owned all the other circuses and somehow this drum made it to the Ringling winter quarters where Ringling VP Rudy Bundy found it and made it into a cocktail table for his home bar and later on his private train car. The Train car was sold in the early 70's and the drum made it to Rudy's barn/cabin in Ohio where I found it 3 years ago.

Ludwig and Ludwig badges don't appear until later in 1920's.

I know and can't understand that. The badge is painted over and I can't read it. I do not want to mess up the finish as it is a genuine Ringling prop for sure. Do you know of another badge it could be? Same shape but earlier?
