Help I.D. this Slingerland Floor Tom Last viewed: 6 hours ago

Loading...

This floor tom was part of a Radio King kit that I purchased years ago. I'm trying to I.D. the model and date of manufacture. Based on my research, the small beavertail lugs and the metal stand it's in, I believe it to be from the early 40s. Would you agree?

Why this particular floor tom has the wooden hoops with in-lays in lieu of the metal hoops I don't know. Was there a particular "model" of Slingerland floor toms that came with the wooden hoops? Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time and your help.

THANKS for your input, as usual, Mark! I appreciate your time. From what I've researched, the floor tom stand that my drum is mounted on was used from 1940 - 1946, while the floor tom leg mounts in the pic that you provided were used from 1947 - 1957.

I noticed that all the toms in the pic you provided have the wooden hoops with in-lays. Were these hoops featured on a particular model of Radio King kits back in the 40s? The rack tom on my kit had a metal hoop on the batter-side with a tacked-down bottom.

Thanks again for your help.

Gary you are correct on all the dates, the toms with a metal stick chopper hoops and tacked bottom heads dates from the 30's till the late 40's. I can't find anything to answer about a specific kit name for the wood hooped kit, other than the Rolling Bomber drums of the 40's, Email Mark Cooper and ask him, he is a member here also.

Most likely, the floor tom was made at the end of the war or immediately after. This letter, dated October 1944 will shed some light on this. That's a great looking drum!
