help identify 1920's ludwig snare Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Hi,

I am new to the forum and glad to have found it. I have been a passive observer for some time, but just now decided to post. I have an old Ludwig snare drum I am trying to get some information on. I have not been able to find much, except that it appears to have been made in the early 1920’s according to the badge. The drum is approximately 15” across and 13” deep. It has a mahogany body and has eight lugs on each side that tighten into a central tube. It is tensioned separately on both sides. It has two different sets of hooks. One set of hooks reads PATENTPEND, and the other has no identification. The strainer mechanism is intact with mostly all original hardware, but obviously the tension adjusting screw is not original nor is some of the mounting bolts. Two old calf skin heads, one is a Gretsch Broadkaster and the other is a Bruno Select. The two rims are wood and painted red. The drum body appears to have been painted white at some time, but the paint has since been removed with remnants of the white still left in the mahogany grain. The drum sounds great!

I would be interested to know if anyone has any further information on this drum, such as its use and what it was produced for; when exactly it was made; are these drums common and perhaps what its value might be? Any other pertinent or historical information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and energy.
