I'm european so sorry for my english....

There is a drum set for sale, the price seems to be very atractive 120 $ - including this strange snare which is not part of a set as i think. But i have no idea what it is. I have only photos and dimensions ( somewhat imprecise: snare 14/7, bass 22/16 f.tom 16/14 - 15???, tom 12,5 - 13/9 ) There is no stamped name, no badges, nothing. What do you thing? European/American/ Japan. Is it worth something? They are similar to old slingerland - but i doubt...

Im over all Im interested in this snare, it looks solid and have 10 tuning screws and strange strainer system... is it old? Lugs are not similar to any other i know.

Please let me know what do know, what do you think?

Yours faithfully

WM

Hi! Glad you found the forum! The kit looks Pearl-ish, maybe. I'm no expert on MIJ things. The snare reminds me of a CB-700 Parallel snare I've seen, but I don't remember it having that Star / Tama muffler control.

Never fear, someone with much more knowledge than me will be along shortly.

The drums you posted are Star pre-Tama set.The lugs and T-rods on the bass drum tells me this. The deep snare is a Star King beat snare from in the 70's the drums are from the late 60's.In photo #2 you posted with all the drums bass and floor tom on floor the two mounted toms on the table could you post a photo or two of the thin snare drum.If its what i think it is what you spent on the set that drum would sell for double that or more....Mikey

Hi Wojtek and Welcome,

It's MIJ to me also --- Mikey is a great master in jараnese things.

But snare is not CB-700 --- there is no external stange here and lugs have a different shape to CB series, and other parts etc.

BD pedal is similar to earlier Amati made and has the same footplate.

George.

I agree with the Star drums part. The snare is a generic MIT supersensitive. The lugs are the giveaway,as the central portion of the lug could be imprinted/cast with the name of the drum set.Adam and Blackhawk immediately come to mind.It is a Taiwan Tama knockoff.Nobody has mentioned the little pancake snare...

thank you very much.

Unfortunately, this flat snare has already been sold... That's a pity, i know ...

Ok. I already Know it must be "pre - tama" Star set, but I still do not know if it's worth something... I mean, not to make a bussines, but as an instrument not only as a nice set of boxes with some vintage outlook.

What is the sound? wood? Quality?

Is this professional instrument, can I take it to the studio ( after renowation of course?) or, as many believe - the old Japanese drums are like modern Chinese beginners kits?

What about the snare? I heard that they have thin steel shels and due to this don't have powerful sound and attac. Let me know, is it a nice piece or just an old can?

Does anyone have experience with staff like this? Please advise, I would like buy something that sounds retro but nice and powerful

Thank you

Regards

What's the purpose?Resto for your own use or to flip? They are relatively complete,so you wont lose money on them.I don't see MAKING money on them either, due to common pearl color and configuration.I have some identical LaBoz drums-you could make a double-bass MIJ set!
