From Drum-pada-Bum!

Hello, I found this old drum-set 20" 12" in Berlin/Germany. It's made of 5-ply maple/birch? The foil looks like "blue oyster", someone told me it was an old Sonor.I'd appreciate any help about the brand, the year, value or any further information...

I still say that the bass drum is a copy M.I.J.,iam not sure of the mounted tom it has no lug's on it that i can see....If you check this posting on this forum under Non-U.S.A drums "anyone got a wing-screw for this M.I.J. mount" the mount looks the same as the one posted on the blue bass drum.....Mikey

I know this is an old thread but I just came across it, searching for something else. These are definitely Tromsa drums from the late 70's or even 80's. Tromsa was a very conservative company. They didn't copy; everything was their own design, sometimes not such a good design . By this time ,they had modernized their hardware shapes a bit and had gone to more angular mouldings----- to spur mounts with external structure, rather than the mounts they used for 20 some years, that had a flat plate on the outside and an internal structure. The tom arm barely changed since the 1940's and I suspect that Tromsa is the father company of this now ubiquitous design.

These were entry level drums without lugs and the snare that would have been included is similar ,usually 5 x 13 without lugs ( The Amateur model), lateral cam action throwoff, 12 wire snares.

This 3 piece kit was for schools and beginners. Quite a few were sold in Germany because they were quite cheap.

Nice German made Tromsa "Junior Drums" is the translation from the German, hence the low-end hardware. Definitely Sonor, West-German influence on the tom mount design.
