Help Needed Ludwig Supraphonic Keystone badge Snare Drum Last viewed: 8 hours ago

Hi everyone

I have a Ludwig Supraphonic - 1960s Keystone badge 10 lug Snare drum. It has a 5 digit serial number. I can't find any Ludwig drums with 5 digits.

I have owned this drum for 30 years. It has the original Ludwig snare skin and snare on it as it came out the factory, it has not been touched from new!

I have used it for years for teaching and I had to change the top rim but everything else is original.

This drum was the first snare drum I ever played. In 1969 at aged 10 my father took me to a friend of his (my father played saxophone in bands and still dose at 84!) for a drum lesson.

This was the snare drum that the teacher had me play, he had owned it from new.

In 1983 the teacher sadly died and his wife asked if I would like to buy his kit which I did.

I would like to know more about the drum and how much it might be worth.

It's not in the best condition because the chrome is pitted in places but it sounds GREAT. I have photos and will upload them.

Cheers Mick Patrick.

The drum is "priceless", because of the history.

Here is a link to some Ludwig S/N & Dates:

A 5 digit S/N looks like around 1964.

You could leave it as is or clean it up. Despite the light pitting, you'd be surprised at how much nicer it would look. This is if you are concerned about the looks. Since it's your drum, it's up to you.

I hope you're not looking to sell it. :( You'll never be able to buy a drum like it again.

Thanks for sharing. :)
