I just figured out the problem.I used a Ambassador tom head ,when I should have used a snare head. I did a switch and everything is OK. Thanks for the tips.Matt

Perhaps your next stop is to the store where you bought the head and ask for a credit/replacement as they gave you the wrong head. Worth a try? (You can never have too many new heads in your stock, especially with you as backup on your gigs!)

I did a similar gaff by putting a 20" tom head on a bass drum, who has a 20" tom? ;) Shoulda known better DOH, ha
I bought the head on Ebay and as it did say "Snare head" in the auction, it was really thick. It will be used later on down the road and it would have been a hassel to send it back to guys I do a lot of business with. An honest mistake. It will be used on my Chrome Supra and let someone else deal with it . Its a 10 lug sounds great but some of the chrome is flaking off.If I get a decent offer for it,it shall be sold.
