HELP! Value of damaged Rogers Powertone Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Loading...

Hey everyone,

I am looking at a real nice 60s Powertone, but unfortunately it has some damage. It appears that the badge has been put on there - and that is when that badge was re-installed with the (too) large tacks, nails????

See attached pics and give me your thoughts - still worth quite a bit or is this snare now shot because of it. Can always be parted out - but that is just a heart-breaker!!

Strainer looks original and in decent shape.

I would be willing to bet a dime that if you pull a lug, you are going to find one of the holes has been elongated to accomodate beavertail lugs. This number is close to the transition but I think its a Bread and Butter number.

Was it stock that they would place the badge so that the tacks would go right through the label? Or perhaps I should ask if they would place the label so that it would be right on top of the badge tacks???

Is this shell shot now? or how has it effected the value - worth it for parts? what - $100??

For that, I would give a hundred bucks and not give a hoot about "value."

I know the badge says POWERTONE, however that could be a B&B Powertone. Its not worth putting the money into it for Petty repro lugs, but.. It IS A POWERTONE. As such it would have Powertone edge profile, not Holiday. I would take it, and play it. Everything should clean up nicely. I wouldnt part it out. I would play it.

Transition numbers are aprox. at or around 2300. Your mystery could go either way.

And yes, you often see the tag right under the pins. But that really does not greatly devalue the drum, even with the tag defaced. The serial is still present. This should be a THREE PLY DRUM!!!!

I would be interested in this drum for a hundred bucks.

+1. These snares are killer. Also, the tag was not a sacred cow on the line . . .

Doesn't look like much of a problem: the badge was removed, then replaced with larger brads. The brads need to be bent over to finish the job,

Rogers usually put the paper tag over the brads in the maple snare drums, to make it look cleaner. This one was torn to get at the brads.

Why do people do such things?

Still a worthwhile drum, and really not devalued all that much because of this.

How much did you pay? ;)

The mystery is solved! There are indeed indentations where the brads were bent over to finish the job.

I am in the process of cleaning this up and it is going to look real nice.

Thanks for the input Dan!

So, were the lug holes opened up to convert to beavertail lugs? (not a good thing) .
