Good starting point but if that L.A. Camco snare drum is COB and is complete with it's original Camco round strainer... that drum would easily go for $500.00 to $700.00 max.

That is a nice and fairly scarce 6.5 inch Camco COB snare drum. Am I correct that it is the 10-lug model? They also came in an 8-lug version.

It looks to be in nice overall condition, although the bottom hoop looks to be a replacement, and the tone control is missing. Both of these issues can be corrected, but they have to be taken into account when pricing the drum. Camco tone controls can cost around $75.

These drums sound fantastic, and despite the issues someone should want to pick this up to play it.

I agree with the previous posts on the general price range. The drum should go for $400 to $550 in its current condition This is assuming, as Osa said has obove, that the original throw-off is present and working; if not, the price would be more in the $275 to $400 range. The L.A. period 6.5 inch shells tend to bring a premium, and they don't come up for sale all that often.

This is a $700-750 snare easily if the original throwoff is there. It looks to be in fabulous condition. Thanks for sharing and good luck with it.

The drum could very well go to $700 or beyond, if two or three people who really want it get into a competition, and yes, it looks to be in nice condition.

Saying this, if I'm seeing correctly about the bottom hoop and the tone control, that is $100 to $125 worth of replacement parts needed. The tone controls are sought after since so many are missing from Camco drums. It is always said that Camco was using "generic" COS hoops during the L.A. period, but there are some nuances to the hoops that are recognizable. Finding an exact match for a 10-lug model could be more challenging than one would assume.

$700 (a strong, but not insane, sale price) minus $125 for replacement parts = $575. If it's a bad day a bit less, if it's a good day a bit (or a lot) more. If the throw-off is missing then you have to take off significantly more. Aristocrat strainers are increasingly difficult to find, and can be expensive when sold individually.

How it tends to work (for me, at least): when you are the seller, expect to get less. When you are the buyer, expect to pay more!

I'm sure if you posted this for sale here on this VDF forum first you could find a buyer. Given the fact that the guys here are so helpful it would be nice to offer it to this fine community first. These snares don't come along too often. Thanks for sharing with us and sorry about your uncle.
