Hello,

I own a snare that i cannot find any info about, i didn't realise at first but i came accross it by sheer luck (i only paid ?150 for it) and i've been told to look after it because it's rare but know nothing more than this. Many drummers have commented on it but nobody can tell me how much its worth etc. I'm not sure whether to keep it because it may be of value or sell it because i kinda need the cash...

Anyway i need help identifying it as I have another snare that i use with my kit so really this one's just sitting around doing nothing. Basically, it's made by Sonor and its a signature edition but i cant make out the sig and its not written elsewhere on the drum! It's a tank in the sense that its 8" deep and made of steel so naturally it ways a ton!

If anyone is able to assist in shedding some light on this (useful links etc) it would be much appreciated, thanks!

So you have a Sonor Signature Series Snare drum in 8" depth?

Extended length wires on the bottom?

Can you furnish a picture?

I'm at work at the moment so i'm unable to get a pic up but i will try to get one up asap.

One other thing i will mention is that it came with two long square shaped metal rods attached to the bottom that went along the snare wires but they got in the way so i detatched them, any idea what they are...?

Yes, they are to protect the parallel snare strainer system and you should put them back on for that reason and to keep the value of the drum.

The signature badge should be gold. The signature is from Horst Link - the descendent of Johannes Link the founder of Sonor Drums. The Signature series drums were from the era when the Link family still controlled the company. Now of course they are owned by Hohner.

The snare is made from ferromanganese steel. They came in 10 and 12 lug versions.

You stole that drum. Drums in excellent condition can easily fetch over $1000.

Thanks to your help i've managed to find a photo on the net, mine would be the same as the one on the left, how much would that be worth in 'good' condition...?

In fact i have now found the exact one, i'm pretty sure mine is the 12 lug model as opposed to the 10 lug model but i'd have to check when i get home to be sure! Also, where would be a good place to sell it if i do decide to...?

The 12 lug is a bit drier and the 10 lug is a bit more full bodied. (sounds like I'm talking about wine here;) ). Therefore, the 10 seems to be more sought after by players. Both are highly collectible. From your currency....seems like you are in Great Britain. Ebay is a good choice, I think. They seem to fetch good prices in both Europe and the US. Take a look at completed auctions...yadda, yadda.

They also made a bell bronze version which I have seen go for $1500 to $2000.

Good Luck!
