WFL 5" x 14" 1958 Supraphonic/Super-Ludwig lacquered brass snare drum.

It will be interesting to see what this will go for in todays market. It says all original but the faceplate on the strainer has Ludwig script... shouldn't this be a WFL plate?

Rare bird. I'm also interest in what happens.

Probably, strainer is original.

A local collector here in St. Louis has recently came into some health problems. He's been listing a whole house full of vintage stuff on craigslist for months. I got in there early and actually pulled a lot of drums out of the basement upstairs so we could haggle. This drum was one of them. I pulled up all kinds of other grail drums (1920's Luddy brass, Radio King etc). He knew he had it down there somewhere but was surprised I found all this cool stuff. It was a full basement from floor to ceiling of stuff. He was asking a big price on the lacquered brass drum so I passed. I really wanted a chrome over brass and I just didn't like the looks of it. I'm shallow that way! I'll probably be kicking myself that I didn't buy it once the auction ends!

Anyway, another local big collector bought it and is the guy on ebay. He's a total stand up guy so he will most likely get top dollar for it. He's very well respected. I got to see the drum after he bought it too. I imagine this drum is all original.

Thanks,

Ray

Looks like someone gave an offer the seller couldn't refuse. Seller ended this early. This makes me wonder what my early 60's Lacquered Brass Rogers Holiday would have gone for on the open market. Like the French say 'Say La Vie".

Gee - what a surprise.

I bet if these sort of auctions crossed the finish line the winning bid would exceed w/ever price they dude got offline; even with the fees involved. I will rub my crystal ball & posit that ebay will sooner or later clamp down on this behavior of using their listing services without feeding the kitty with some fancy, albeit annoying algorithm.

Just a thought - Hobbs
