Nice!

Funny, that you in the US uses a Premier 36 because you haven´t got a Ludwig 402 in the shop....

I use a 36 because it cost me a third or less than a 402 would´ve...and they sound very much alike!

Gorgeous!

Because I'm this much of a geek I have to ask, what was your friend using for sticks?

I am totally in love with that ride cymbal...the whole set up actually.

7As you say?

Any reason for such a small stick on such big drums?

The only reason I ask is that I had a friend with a smiliar Ludwig setup, 28/15/18/20 with a 15 inch snare & he would only play them with 2Bs.

He and I talked at great length about this, as we're both nerds about stuff.

His theory was that everything had to be proportionate & it was all about controling these giant drums. "It's like having a Marshall stack, you can have the knob on 2, 10, or anywhere."

Any thoughts on this?

Or do I just have too much spare time?

I use 5B or even 2B sticks but my friend Kons just cannot use any other thing than 7A....I guess its just a matter of taste. Im not sure but Ive heard that Ian Paice uses fairly thin sticks and he DO get big sounds from those drums....

There are 35 and 36s, 5 and 6½" deep respectively.

It is the Premier version of the Beverley Cosmic 21, which was originally made because of Ludwigs great succes with their aluminium Supraphonics. The Supras were also identifiable on the bulge on the middle of the shell.

In the thirties, Premier had sold drums with the same shape, albeit in brass.

Beverley therefore asked Premier (who made the Beverley drums) to make an aluminium version and fitting it with 10 lugs like the Ludwig, calling it the Cosmic 21 - legend says it was because of the selling price was 21$. Same legend says Mr. Ludwig saw one at a show, and was pretty impressed - enough to have it in his office for a while.

They sold very well, and in the late seventies, when Premiers sales slumped due to increasing competition from the japanese also in the quality segment, the drum was fitted with Premier lugs instead of the Beverleys and sold as the 35 and 36.

The chrome is better than Ludwigs - although chrome on alu is bound to delaminate sooner or later.

I haven´t played mine alongside a Supra, but my experience tells me the difference is very small.

The 36 are harder to find than the 35 - but they do pop up at ebay.uk from time to time. Expect to pay around 100£ for a well-kept one, a little less perhaps for a 35.

I used to have a Beverley 21 and I still regret selling it...It was such a lovely sounding drum. So thats whats this babe its about, uh? So Beverley never had a 6.5 Cosmic 21 model? That one would be killer one to have. I have a Bristish Dynasonic, a Milwaukee John Grey a Gold ingot Hayman and now this 36,,,,Man , Im seriosuly thinking about keeping these baby!!!!
