Hi there guys! Keeping up with the Radio King aura this Forum has taken lately thanks to the amazing score of my respected friend Slingerlynn. The aura reached California and I was lucky enough to catch on the vibe and found I this old bunch of tubes up yesterday in Ventura, CA...By the way: What a nice town!...
I responded to an "Old drums and cymbals" post on Craiglist... I jumped on the car and got there in an hour and half after talking on the phone with gentleman who had em...
They were set up covered with nylon on the back of an upholstery place. There were some mexican guys working and they made some funny jokes because I was taking those drums "Del tiempo de Moises" ( I understood because spanish is my native language) and they said I was buying some drums "From Moses times"...
The set included 11 Zildjians (No K Istambul though...snif!) besides the ones on the Hardcase: Zenjians, Alejians, a 12" China (From China) and a rare that Ive never seen before...I cannot believe one can still score like this in 2013...And since theyre keepers Im sharing with the forum how much I paid for them: $300.00.
Im up to my neck on projects but these is going to be one of the most significant ones. They only require cleanning. No extra holes ,no craks...They seriously yellowed. Conselling about this will be greatly appreciated.
About the Zildjians: They were all sold right away last night. None was a keeper to my ear. They were late 60's and early 70's.The Glentleman who sold the drums for me told me he bought em from an old lady who lived on a nursery home and he was the driver of the bus who used to take them on errands around town. That was 10 years ago or so. He still has the receipt for the sale (He paid $300.0 for them and he just wante his money back, pretty much) but he needs to find it. Ill keep checkin with him and I might be able to have the name of the original owner.
