How high is your hi-hat from the floor? Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Loading...

My hats are 35 1/2" from the floor, which leaves them 5 1/2" above the snare. That still leaves me 3 1/2" of rod above the clutch, upon which I mount a tamborine about 1 1/2" from the top. I prefer a higher sitting position when playing so the top of my throne is 27" from the floor. I'm just over 6' tall.

I try to mount my other cymbals as low as possible, with the lower edge of the highest (18" left-side crash just slightly overlapping the hats) at 45" and the lower edge of the lowest (20" right-side ride) at 37 1/2", just 3 1/2" above and about 3" of overlap on the back edge of my 14" suspended tom.

This set-up leaves me in a very comfortable and relaxed sitting position with minimal reach required to get to any of my cymbals. See thumbnail for layout.

Same here all around on the set up.Cafe 9, I've played that kit, I know of what you speak.

Last time I was there it was a more normal kit (but the cymbals were not too good) and this time it was a "traps" kit- essentially a bunch of heads floating in the air.

Although it was a bit uncomfortable to play, most of his cymbals were good. He had a ZBT splash and crash that were really sort of dead sounding but his 21" sweet ride was, well, sweet sounding (and crashable) as was his A custom crash and hats (when I could manage to hit them). Crashing the hats with the foot sounded nice as did the 'chick'- but the chick was a bit loud for the rest of the kit and I had to be mindful of that playing this odd little kit...
