How many Supras do you own? Last viewed: 1 second ago

Loading...

One 5x14 Supraphonic 1976, one Acrolite c. 1976, one 6.5x14 COL Supersensitive, 1996.

They are good drums, but I am still, and always will be, a Rogers guy.

Just one I sold the rest of them to Sven in Chicago over the years.

The poll is a bit askew. If you've got 2, you could vote in either the "I have 2" or "2 to 5" category. It's no consequence regarding my vote, however, as I've got more than 5. I probably need to unload a few.

For those that own more than one, do you notice a big difference in the sound between each drum?

Do you have them setup differently?

- different heads

- different wires

- different tuning

Has anyone ever found or had a bad sounding Supra or is this not even possible? Am I doing to the "shell of shame" for even typing this? :(

hawghunter - Nice drum! I love those 402's. Have fun with it!

JC - I remember seeing your post about that kit. Beautiful!

J!m - Yes, hard to say no to an acrolite. I have several of those myself as well, and I love them too.

Ploughman - Yes, I can totally understand the Rogers thing. I'm still looking for that first Rogers kit... one that won't break the bank. So, I guess you proved the point... every drummer (even a Rogers guy) has to have at least one Supra :) ...I suppose the opposite is true for Ludwig guys, I have one Dynasonic and one Powertone (both COB) Yes Sir

Rocketman - Yes, I noticed my goof-up on that shortly after I posted it... should have read 3-5 DOH

thornbeck - I keep a couple of my 400's tuned differently and with different head / wire combinations so that I can swap them out to suit my mood or the situation. I haven't ever come a cross a 'bad' sounding Supra... just ones that I think sound better than others. I bet it's all in my head, but I find that my worst looking Supra sounds the best to me. Maybe it's the whole 'underdog' thing... like I want it to sound better :)

I had two Supraphonic drums until a couple months ago. I traded a 77 in super nice condition, no pitting, near perfect chrome, for a 1976 early Big R 6.5 COB Dyna-Sonic.

As for the Acrolite...... I have owned at least a dozen. Right now I am back down to one. I have given several kids their first REAL snare drum. It is a sad thing that where school band still exists, the choice of instrument being offered to beginners is often a piece of imported no name crap unworthy of the price, and detrimental to the future of the student. In every instance, the Acrolite was a serious step up.

It's the drum that got me into vintage drums. I've got a 66 14x5" 400, a 14x6.5" 402 and a 14x6.5" hammered bronze. I have a couple o 70's black beauty's but they are super sensitives...

Man, I have owned, played, modified more supras than I can count using fingers - and toes. The solitary one in my possession now is the best I've ever owned/played. 1961 Pre-serial 'Super' Crome Over Brass (COB) 14"x5". I have a REMO coated Ambassador on top, an Evans Hazy 300 on the bottom and a set of the brass Puresound Blasters wires. The drum kills. Any style of drumming from Nee-Awlins second-line, to rock, to jazz sounds great on this drum. Lots of wang-dang-doodle.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

I have 3 Supraphonic's and 2 Acrolite's. Also check out this pic of my old 71 Supra that was in the fire. I looked back and found some pics of it. I had cleaned it up some but after that pic took it apart again and went through it once more. Still sounds great, but I think I win for the ugliest supra.

Also picked up a really nice 70's B/0 badge Acrolite last night," excellent condition, with a UFO case, needs heads and wires. The rims, muffler, and shell are in excellent condition" and I really don't need another one. If someone is looking for one """"who doesn't already have one""" let me know.
