How much for an Acrolite Last viewed: 1 day ago

Loading...

Considering buying my first Acro - you guys chime in with advice:

1. what should I look for, physically/cosmetically?

2. what should I be willing to pay?

I'm not partial to an era, and I'm not a "collector" per se so I don't mind one that's a bit "broken in" (i.e. doesn't have to be pristine or anything).

Just seems like the Acro is one of those snares everyone should own at least one (and perhaps 9) of, so I've started looking. They seem to be a very reasonably-priced drum compared to a lot of other vintage snares. I seem to see them as low as $100-125 on ebay - is this typical? Are there better deals to be had? Or perhaps...

3. are there better deals to be had on other snares (brands/models) that don't necessarily get the press that the Acros and Supras get...?

I'm still learnin' here, folks...thanks for sharing your sage wisdom.

You can find Acros from 75 up, with or w/out stand and case, so look them over. In the price range these run, and the fact there are about 4 zillion, you can find a great one for the 125ish range.

If you ever make it up to Columbus I'd recommend going to Music Go Round on Bethel Rd. I was in last week and they had 2 Acrolites for under $100. I think one may have been $50 and the other wasn't much more than that.

Feel free to hit me up and I'd be glad to run over and snap a few pics/possibly pick it up for you.

Greg

I'd be glad to also pass along my phone #.

Hey, thanks Greg. That looks like a great deal - checked the M-G-R website and they're listed but not pictured: two Luddies listed just as 14" snares, $59.99 each. sounds good! I might have to pop over there and check them out. I'll email/PM you about scouting for me if it looks like I won't be able to make it over soon. (my wife's having a baby any day now, so things are a bit unpredictable.)

In any case, I'll definitely wait around for a very nice one for $75 or less.
