I can see why people do NOT list on eBay Last viewed: 6 hours ago

I've been trying to list some drums for sale - over $5000 - on eBay...a BIN with Offers. I've been at the computer trying to wade through all the fields and finally just gave up. I kept getting those red error messages especially when trying to figure out shipping costs. My drums are in Canada and I could not get to a field where it said to ship International - From Canada to the USA. I kept going around in circles. I know the weight and dimentions of the pallet with the drums. I've contacted a shipper in the past and got a price.

I think if I go back into my eBay saved file I may be able to get around the 'shipping' by stating Local Pickup Only and add a note in the ad to contact me regarding shipping...Would that fly....or are there eBay police that don't like that???

I'm fairly good at working on a pc I did it for 20 years in Law Enforcement until I retired recently and I took all kinds of computer courses and worked with dozens of software programs. I will admit some of the areas are a little confusing - especially going into DOS to deal with a virus etc. But, I'm better than average.

I will have to say ebay is NOT set up so you can just go there and sell stuff. For instance: yesterday....while trying to list my drums I got a message that I could not sell over $5000. So I called ebay...expensive call for me way up here...and they did increase my selling amount to $10000. But why did I have to do that in the first place....Grrrrr! I wasted a half of a day dealing with that.

I've given up now....for the time being. I'm thinking that because I'm in Canada and trying to sell to the USA market that it's more complicated. And yes....I do have my Primary Address selected as my Canada address so that's not the problem.

I'll stick with C/L and Kijiji for now.

There....that's my rant for todaySoap Box

I WILL have a good day.

Cheers,

Gary - Take a deep breath....

Go back and make sure you selected 'International' in the shipping dialog box. If you don't see it, -call ebay- and ask where they've hidden it. If you can find the button that enables International shipping, all the calculators will work in tandem. It must be a simple oversight. Look carefully for the International shipping option. It's there somewhere.

I feel your pain... it is why I opted out of the ebay/Paypal money-trap a couple of years ago. If I can't sell it here, or on CL, it just doesn't get sold.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Reverb.com seems much better than eBay. Hope it gets traction, but unfortunately there just aren't enough eyeballs there yet to get bidding wars started.

Yes I hope so too. There's a ton of really nice gear there. Almost 900 items in drums and cymbals alone. Not alot compared to the 1000's on EB. But I think in time it'll take off as people slowly get fed up with eBay. My son has been selling there for a while and is doing pretty well. He likes it. They are growing at a steady pace. :)

Glenn.

Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

I find that a lot of EBay sellers rip us off with their "shipping/handling fees".

You find something you want/need for a good price or so you think until you go to the s/h costs which can be 3x's the price of the item!

I just now am TRYING to list my drums on Reverb.com. I am at/near the bottom where it says "Where are you shipping from?" I entered West Kelowna....then it asks "What State/Province?" I look in the Drop Menu.....and guess what! There are NO Canadian Provinces listed to select from. There is a Link right next to the drop menu that says Change Country ...but when I click on it nothing happens.

Can anyone here help me with this? Has anyone here used Reverb.com to sell something from Canada?

So frumstrating - it seems that the Reverb.com site is set up for USA sellers only so far as I can see. I'm now trying to seek help on that site.....no luck so far
