I clicked 'Buy It Now' - Questions re- Super Ludwig Snare Last viewed: 1 second ago

This Super Ludwig popped up a couple hours ago and I just couldn't resist.

I have some concerns:

1) The two tone painted shell looks original, but I can't find any catalog reference to this paint treatment. Is it original?

2) The strainer guard is missing. Anybody got one?

3) I can find only a few pictures of this era Ludwig with a muffler/dampener. They all look like the one on this drum, but don't show up in the catalogs. Is the strainer an add-on?

4) Today is Wednesday and this is my 3rd snare purchase of the week. Is this what addiction feels like?

Thanks

Jim

You've already accomplished the first step toward rehabilitation, "Self awareness". (BTW, the muffler looks like a Slingerland , Harold Dodd design. You already know the The finish is not the typical Blk/Gld Duco, but it is usually easy to tell an aftermarket job).

From 24 to 28, the strainer did not have a guard. That was introduced in 28 !!

Hmmm- interesting. Upon examining the pictures in greater detail, I noticed that there is something which might be the strainer guard sitting inside the drum. Tough to tell. After hunting through many many google images, I'm thinking the muffler might NOT be original.

Would appreciate any additional thoughts.

Thanks

Jim

The ripped head lets us see inside. I see no extra holes, only a missing screw on the butt end. It looks original to me. Maybe Mike will see this !!

Here`s a Super ludwig without the guard from 26 back. I think the parts inside are for the snare wires !!

It has a slingerland radio king muffler on it. That is why I didn't buy it now. I can't deal with extra holes on a drum like that.

You have a good eye. The muffler, including the small outer-shell bracket looks much like this slingerland: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SLINGERLAND-RADIO-KING-SNARE-TOM-FLOOR-SET-DRUM-MUFFLER-/261032959462?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cc6c6dde6#ht_500wt_922

The muffler is not important & neither is the finish. If the Supersensitive mechanism is in working order, you got an excellent snare. The muffler can be easily changed out to an original, & I would clean up the finish , the best I could, & leave it alone.
