I need help to identify this drum Last viewed: 1 hour ago

I picked it up on eBay last month. It was advertised as a Walberg&Auge/Gretsch drum. I emailed Bun Calros (he owned it at one time) and he said he believes it's a Carlton. May very well be. It has no identifying plate or badge. The tom hanger appears to be an add-on because it's attached with two screws & the tom hanger plate is covering up four smaller holes. I may want to try to put back what was once on there if I can find that out.

The drum's in pretty good condition.....a WMP finish. Some of the t-rods are bent but seem to be working okay. The drum has reinforcment rings and a tacked on head as you can see. Now that I'm an expert head tacker I may tackle this drum because the head has four or five little holes (I found so far) and is somewhat loose.

Appreciate any help with identification.

It's identified!

I was cleaning the lugs and notice faint etching on the bottom of the casting - IN ENGLAND - and a faint stamp inside the casting - DALLAS. That makes it a Carlton. Mystery solved! Now I need a nameplate or badge......anybody got a carlton name plate??

Thanks for this.

It would be nice to snag one of those kits.

My drum has the straight metal counter hoop with the clip-type claws for tensioning.

I've got the tacks removed and cleaned - managed to save them all. My next step is to order calfhide to tuck & tack the heads. The finish is really nice on this drum. It's the first drum with WMP finish that I've been this close to let alone own. I think if I was ever to buy a new USA Custom Gretsch shellpack I would be tempted to order it in the Vintage WMP if they still have it. I know in 2009 they were offering it on the "bop" shellpack as one of the finish options. It just looks classy to me.
