I think it's a Ludwig Last viewed: 47 minutes ago

Hi, everyone. I am new here. I found an old drum that was given to my husband as a kid. I think it is a ludwig because it came in a canvas case that says ludwig on the inside. Also, I can make out Ludwig on (I am going to sound really dumb now) the thing that can be taken off to tighten the drum with. But I can't find any markings on the actual drum that says Ludwig. So, I was wondering if all your expertise could help me out. I also was wondering how old it was and if it was worth anything. The bottom skin is broken and the initials R.W.Z. are etched on the bottom rim. It measure approximately 15 inches in diameter and 11 inches tall. I hope these pictures help (I have more if needed). Thanks in advance for your time and knowledge.

I tried standing on my head, but then decided to turn the monitor upside down... now I have a sore neck from the head stand...

I think it looks like a Ludwig Scout Parade Drum w/out the aligning brackets in the middle.

The Scout, like other Ludwig parade drums, did not have a badge. Only a rectangular sticker just above the grommet. Could be from the 40 or 50's I guess.

Maybe the Ludwig Economy!

Crish,

First of all, welcome to the forum. OldSchoolDrummer is close; I also thought initially it was a Scout model. You have a late 1930's Junior Parade Drum by Ludwig (catalog picture attached below). These old parade drums are quite common, but unfortunately, the Junior model was one of the lower, economy models ($17.50 new!) and designed for students due to its small size (14"x10" shell). Although this model drum may not be highly collectable or valuable, it can still be used as a nice marching or concert snare because of the fine, aged mahogany shell, but it would require fresh heads and proper tuning. Feel free to ask any questions at all here; there's lots of serious experts on vintage drums here.

And your sideways pictures were fine for those of us who know how to hit Ctrl+Alt+right arrow.

Yes, it's one of my favorite office gags... hit [Ctrl+Alt+down arrow] on someone's open computer to completely invert the monitor image and watch the victim try to correct it. I had a coworker give up and just turn the entire monitor upside down.
